Busy Summer for Toppers
Ryan Gotelaere (#44), former Topper Hockey graduate, participated in a trip he will never forget.
He traveled with the Waterloo Black Hawks, USHL hockey team, to Omsk Russia representing the USA in the Junior Club World Cup Hockey Tournament.
Ryan said "It was an experience of a lifetime, traveling halfway around the world, representing your country, to participate in such a high level tournament."
Waterloo placed second in their pool to advance to the medal round, after defeating the Russian Omsk Hawks 7-3. They then had to face the undefeated Sweden team to make it to the gold medal championship game. Waterloo took a 3 goal lead, only to see the lead diminish in the third period after Sweden scored 4 goals. Waterloo tied the game up with 1.7 second left in regulation, then they went on to win the game in a shootout, following a scoreless 4 on 4 - 10 minute overtime period.
